What is a personal alarm?

A personal alarm is a highly effective, inexpensive, non-violent self-defense device.

A personal alarm emits an extremely loud, high-pitched, siren-like sound.

Personal alarms are compact, lightweight and easy to operate. They are activated by either releasing a pin or pushing a button (most models have combined these features). Once the alarm is activated, it can only be shut off by re-inserting the pin or resetting the device.

Some models have adapters that allow the alarms to be used on doors and windows, making them ideal for home, motor home (RV) and travel security.

Personal alarms serve their purpose very well; however, it is very important to note that personal alarms cannot actually disable an assailant. Therefore, it is highly recommended that personal alarms be used in conjunction with more controlling security devices such as pepper sprays and stun guns.

Also, personal alarms are highly recommended for children, the elderly, and the physically challenged – individuals who are either incapable of, or unwilling to, physically engage an assailant.
